The Forum

Club member Johnny Baker has made a few changes and as a result we now have a much better forum for Club Members to use to discuss angling in this area.

The Forum is run independently, and not by the Committe. However, it is requested that all posts to the Forum are kept clean, and that the Forum is not used for "having a go" at other anglers.

FFA Waters

The Coarse section has 11 waters to fish in the Furness area, with the majority being at the Roanhead complex. The table below gives some details of the individual waters and also an ariel photograph.

High Pond

A good beginner's water with plenty of small fish to be caught. Also, the new part is relatively easy to fish using simple techniques. Light lines, small hooks and small baits will catch endless Roach, Perch and Gudgeon. Step up the gear and fish close in for the Tench. The water also holds Bream, Skimmers, Eels and Carp (the section record Carp was caught in this water).

Low Pond

Another good water to start, but can be a little more difficult than High Pond, although the fish tend to be slightly larger. The water holds Roach, Perch, Skimmers, Bream, Tench, Eels, Pike and Carp. For those who like predators, large Pike have been taken to over 16lb.

Burnhole

This water can be very productive, but care needs to be taken as there are some very deep swims. It is mainly fished for it's large stock of big Carp, but the Roach grow quite large and can make a good days fishing. The water also holds Tench, Eels and Pike, some into double figures.

Rita

A large water and very deep, care must be taken when fishing this water. There is no fishing from the car park bank. There are large shoals of Bream in the water, if you can find them. There are also large stocks of Roach, Perch, Skimmers, Eels, Pike and Carp (the section record Roach was caught in this water

Moorfoot

Only a small water, but well stocked with Skimmers, Bream, Roach and Tench. There are also about half a dozen Carp in the pond. Care must be taken when fishing the roadside pegs, and note that there is no fishing from the bank opposite the roadside.

21 Pond

Once again, only a small water, which is usually best fished early in the morning, as the main species are Tench. You may also catch the odd small Roach or Rudd.

Carr Kettle

Situated high on a hill, the water contains large numbers of Perch, Roach, Rudd and Tench. Some of the pegs are a little difficult to get to, so travel light!

Mere Tarn

A fairly difficult to get-to water situated near Scales. Access is very limited, there being only 3 pegs to fish. Fishing is excellent though, with countless numbers of Rudd, Skimmers, Roach, Bream and Carp.

Woodend

A water mainly fished for its large stocks of Carp, although the water also holds a large number of good sized Rudd. Crucian Carp and Eels can also be caught.

Ormsgill Reservoir

Known to hold some very big fish, mainly Carp and Bream. There are also plenty of Perch to be had, some of which grow quite large.

No fishing is permitted in the Bird Feeding Area - Click here. for more information.
