The Forum

Club member Johnny Baker has made a few changes and as a result we now have a much better forum for Club Members to use to discuss angling in this area.

The Forum is run independently, and not by the Committe. However, it is requested that all posts to the Forum are kept clean, and that the Forum is not used for "having a go" at other anglers.

The committee members at work party held on Saturday 10th noticed that yet again there had been litter dumped under the pile of wood/sleepers at the entrance to High Pond. At today’s match held on High Pond it was noticed that this pile of rubbish had got bigger.
This can only have been left by anglers fishing High or Low pond Saturday afternoon/evening.

Also today a full bin bag of rubbish was collected from the shallows peg (peg 4) on Burnhole, this just isn’t acceptable is it?

01.08.09 Low pond
Sometime in the next few weeks (no confirmed date as yet) you might notice a digger doing some work on Low Pond, this has been planned and authorised by the committee. The work is to dig a new level 1m wide path from the High Pond side to the Brunhole side on the far side of Low pond, I’m sure you’ll agree that the path there now isn’t the best path we have, this work should improve the path and give better access to the far side of Low Pond.
The digger wont be that quiet so if your looking for a quiet days fishing just check its not there before you set up.

29.07.09 News update.

16.07.09 Ormsgill Parking.
The Committee have received a complaint that anglers are parking there cars down the muddy lane off the Schneider Rd playing fields car park.
We know that it isn’t just anglers doing this but dog walkers and other people park down that lane. So in future can all anglers not park there or even use this lane.

16.07.09 Florence
As has been known for a while that we might be loosing this water, it has now been confirmed that our lease is not going to be renewed.
We are still in discussion to rescue/remove any fish left in there, any member caught fishing on there wouldn’t help our case and may prevent us being in a position to lease the water again should the chance come up.

16.07.09 Junior matches
There was a bit of discussion at the last Junior match regarding rules and what help parents could give to Junior anglers.
4 rules were previously written to cover this, after discussions with some of the parents at the match the Committee have added a 5th rule.

Rule 5: Parents may mix groundbait before matches start. There after all groundbait and hookbaits shall only be handled by the junior competitor.

Parents can mix groundbaits, paste etc but once the match has started only the Junior angler is allowed to handle the bait/groundbait, this means baiting the hook, loose feeding, feeding by catapult, throwing balls of groundbait all must be done by the Junior angler and not by the parent.
All additional rules for Junior matches can be found here.

25.06.09 School Match
The Dowdales school match scheduled for High Pond this weekend (Sat 27th) has now been cancelled. High pond wont be closed at midnight and is available for all members to use as normal.

24.06.09 Rita Parking
We have received a complaint about cars blocking the entrance to Rita at the entrance to Mr Curtis’s farm. While it may seem that a large enough gap has been left it just isn’t enough for large vehicles to enter and exit the farm road due to there wider turning circle, especially if they are comming from the Roanhead end.
The picture below shows a car that is parked in an acceptable position, can people please use some common sense when parking there and leave enough room to allow large vehicles easy access.

If this problem continues then we may loose access through the field to that side of Rita.

21.06.09 Waters closed for matches.
Can all members please be aware that waters that are holding a match are closed to all anglers from midnight till after the match.
The Match Secretary turned up at High Pond on Sunday 21st to find 5 anglers fishing the water, this was despite a sign on the gate (that they all had walked through) stating the water was closed due to the match.
There is a match every Sunday (Senior or Junior) from now till the middle of September so there will be one water closed on a Sunday between now and then, please check your permit if you intend fishing on a Sunday, its no fun spending an hour setting up only to be told the water is closed and you have to move.

21.06.09 1st Summer League Match
21 anglers turned up for the first summer match of the season, it was won by Steve Wood, full results here.

19.06.09 Evening match.
The first evening match was held on the 18th, only 10 people turned up and braved the showers, everyone caught but weights were low, probably due to the change of weather we had this week. Full Results here.

18.06.09 Junior Matches
Don’t forget all juniors are entitled to fish the junior match season, free entry and bait is provided. Gift voucher prizes for the top 4 in every match.

06.06.09 Work Party
The work party today finished off the new pegs on Rita, full story here.

31.05.09 Ormsgill Reservoir
Can anglers please refrain from fishing in amongst spawning fish, some people have been seen fishing for Carp while they are spawning.
This just isn’t acceptable behaviour just to catch a fish. If it continues then waters may have to be closed in the future to prevent this happening.

24.05.09 Work Parties.
Every senior member should have received a form asking them if they would like to attend work parties this year. The return of these forms has been a bit disappointing with only 9 being returned to date!
Can I remind everyone that work parties are held every Saturday and we meet at 1.00pm at the hut on High Pond. If anyone wants to come along and help they are more than welcome. If you are unsure and want more information before turning up the please phone George on the Thursday or Friday night before and he will tell you the plans for the coming weekend, as much of the work is dependant on the weather and water levels of ponds, number of people available etc.

25.04.09 Work Party
The work party today finished off the steps that were started last week on Rita, full story here.

09.04.09 Litter
Yet again litter is becoming a huge problem, a walk round Rita this week showed that the problem seems to be getting worse. It is a condition of our lease’s that we keep our waters free from litter, failure to do this could see the club loose fishing rights on some waters.
Last years permit contained a note about the litter problems, for those that didn’t see it, this is what was written.

  1. Rule 35 will be strictly enforced. Any litter in your peg belongs to you even if you did not deposit it.
  2. Any member leaving litter will face a lifetime ban from the club, this includes anyone falling foul of rule 35.
  3. Due to the links between Alcohol consumption and littering (bags thrown in bushes containing empty beer cans, bottles etc) any member caught with alcohol in his possession whilst fishing will receive a lifetime ban.
  4. If the situation does not improve (litter/alcohol) a night fishing ban will be placed on all the club waters.

08.04.09 Prize Giving
The Clubs annual Prize giving was held on the 7th April, details and pictures can be found here.

25.03.09 Welcome to our new look
I hope you like the new look to the website. At the moment it’s not totally finished, you will notice from the menu that a few new things have been added and a couple that dont work as yet, these just need finishing off and will be completed very soon.
If anyone has any ideas for the website or can suggest what they would like to see on it them please contact us.

24.03.09 Annual Prize Giving
Just to let you know the clubs annual prize giving will be held on Tuesday 7th April at 7.30pm
At the Football Supporters Club, Walney Rd.
Please come along and enjoy the evening, entry £2, Pie & Peas plus Bar will be available.

20.03.09 Club Website
There have been a few changes made to the club website. Over the last few months Ian Thompson has found with work & family commitments (plus now being Club Treasurer) that he no longer has the time available to keep the website up to date or implement some of his new ideas to improve the website, so Ian has decided to step back from running the website and has handed the day to day running of it over to Scott Thomson.
The Committee would like to thank Ian for all the work he has done on the website over the last few years.

16.03.09 Catch report
Member Jack Ambrose made his first trip to Woodend this year and was rewarded with 3 Carp, the largest being this 9lb Common.

28.02.09 Permit Renewals
Just a quick note to all existing FFA Coarse Section members to say that when renewing an existing permit, there is no need to fill in a complete Application Form again, as Ray already has all your details (unless you've moved etc..).

All that's required is that you either enclose your old Permit, or just a note with your fee stating name and existing membership number, and Ray will sort from that.
