The Furness Fishing Association was formed in 1950 and was originally all one club. Since then it has seen its membership grow and a need for more dedicated sections to be formed. Today it consists of 5 sections covering all aspects of angling and a shooting section. Our section averages a membership of 300 a year, with a quarter being junior members.

The Coarse section has 11 waters to fish in the Furness area, with the majority being at the Roanhead complex. All sorts of fish are stocked to cater for all types of anglers from pleasure to specimen. (Please refer to Club Rules for waters open to unaccompanied juniors.)

There are 3 excellent carp waters within the complex, High pond, Burn Hole, and Rita, all of which boast double figure fish and High pond currently holds the club record for a carp at 35lb-9oz. These waters also double up as match venues along with Low pond as there are also a good head of smaller fish, Roach, Bream, Tench and Perch, to be had by the pleasure or match angler.

The outlying ponds at Roanhead are small but hold some very good fish. Moorfoot can be found on the roadside towards Roanhead beach , Woodend is in the other direction towards Askam.

Florence is above the main complex and has recently undergone reconstruction to enlarge the water and create a suitable water for junior match fishing. Our ponds away from Roanhead are 21Pond and Carr Kettle at Lindal, Mere Tarn at Gleaston and Ormsgill Reservoir in the town, which is recognized as a specimen fish water.
